bjherkert@hotmail.com - May 26, 2004 TEUNIS NYSSEN (ACCORDING TO MY RECORDS) WAS TEUNIS THE SON OF NYE. THEN HIS SONS WENT INTO NEW JERSEY, THEY WERE TOLD TO TAKE A SURNAME. THEY WENT TO THE RARITAN RIVER FROM FLATBUSH SO THEY TOOK THEY DURCH NAME FOR FLATBUSH. THEY BECAME VAN MIDDLESWART, MEANING FROM FLATBUSH. TEUNIS , SON OF JAN, DROPPED THE VAN, AS DID MANY OTHERS. WHEN THERE WERE TOO MANY OF THE SAME NAME, THEY WOULD TAKE A VARIATION OR THEIR TEACHERS AT SCHOOL, WOULD CHANGE THE CHILDS NAME TO AVOID CONFUSION. MY LINE IS MIDDLESWART. APPARENTLY MY CHICAGO SOURCE ABOUT THE SNYDER COUNTY PEOPLE BEING FROM GERMANY IS ALL WRONG, AND THEY ARE MY DISTANT COUSINS AFTER ALL.

susiekmark@yahoo.com - May 25, 2004 Wow what a great site! The more information I can find out about my distant family the better. I am wondering if anyone knows the reasoning behind how the Middlesworth name changed over the generations?

bj herkert@hotmail.com - Nov 10, 2003 THERE IS A MISTAKE IN THE BRODERBUND CD, "NEW NETHERLAND VITAL RECORDS, #11. IT STATES THAT JOHN CELES, SALES, SAYLES PARENTS, WERE JOHN SAYLES AND PHILLIPA SOALS. THAT JOHN SAYLES MARRIED MARY WILLIAMS, DAUGHTER OF ROGER WILLIAMS THE FOUNDER OF RHODE ISLAND. THE PARENTAGE OF CRAZY OLD JAN IS NOT KNOWN. MARY OR MARIA ROBERTS WAS NOT THE MOTHER OF PHOBE. SHE MUST HAVE DIED IN ENGLAND. HE DID NOT WANT THE PARENTS OF MARY ROBERTS TO HAVE ANY OF HIS ESTATE. PHOBE OR FEMETTJE JANS (PHOBE DAUGHTER OF JOHN) WAS A MAIDEN WHEN SHE MARRIED TUNIS NYSENN__SHE WAS NEVER MARRIED TO HENDRICK THE BOR. YEARS AGO, SOMEONE READ THE TRANSCRIPT OF A TRIAL BETWEEN PHOBE'S FAMILY AND HENDRICK AND MADE THE WRONG ASSUMPTION THAT THEY WERE MARRIED AND THE ERROR HAS BEEN PRINTED MANY TIMES.

bjherkert@hotmail.com - Nov 10, 2003 Abraham (van) Middleswart and his wife Maria Griggs, lived in Somerset County, New Jersey and moved to Bucks County, Pa for a few years. From there they moved to Cicil Township, Washington County, Pa. There are no records of their death in Washington County. Some of the children remained in Pa and others went to Ohio. One was my ancestor, Jacob Middleswart who moved to Brown County, Ohio and had a large family. He married Jane Martin after the war in Beaver Falls near Pittsburg

bjherkert@hotmail.com - Nov 10, 2003 I read in a book at Newbury Library in Chicago, that the Middleswart line in Snyder county, New York is from Germany and nor a part of the Middlesart line of New York and New Jersey that originated in Hollard.

forjets@aol.com++ - Feb 23, 2001 Eric- as usual, you have outdone yourself-you found Jan VanMiddleswart still in the reformed church in 1726- which Jan is this?? the one born 1654 and married to Catalyntje Bogaert? Denys Nyssen Denyse's twin brother? I wonder if anyone can answer some of these questions- I have so many- Did Jan's son Teunis VanMiddleswart and wife Susannah Beeckman stay in NY and die in Flatbush or somewhere else in Brooklyn? what dates ? do you know where Abraham VanMiddleswart and Maria Griggs died and the dates? and the birth dates and deathdates of their 6 children? Do you think you could find the Jan that is John N Middleswarth (born 12 April 1745) that is married to Martha Reed? Where did they live before they moved to Snyder Co Pa? when and where were they married? Does anyone know any info on the Reed family, the Schwartzkop family and the Houtz family-?? those are only a few of the things I am still unsure of- your inquisitive cousin- pkenlyn perry

ebal@hudsonet.com - Feb 22, 2001 In 1726 "Jan Van Middleswaart" was received as a member of the Dutch Reformed Church at North Branch (later Readington) in Somerset County (later Hunterdon County), New Jersey, on confession. [Source: page 107 in "History of the Reformed Church at Readington, N.J. 1719-1881" by Rev. Henry P. ebal@hudsonet.com - Feb 17, 2001 The maternal grandfather of Jan Teunis Van Middleswart was Jan Seals an Englishman who arrived in New Amsterdam as early as 1638. He was called "Old Jans" and seems to have been hard to get along with as he was charged with shooting his neighbors' hogs. Old Jans received a wound of some sort about 1643, and death claimed him a couple of years later. By his last will he allowed his son-in-law "Tonis Nyssen" to receive such half of his estate as Tonis should select, with the remaining half going to his surviving wife "Marritje Robers" for her use until she died after which it too would go to Tonis. Pursuant to Old Jans' last will, when Marritje remarried, Governor William Kieft "granted to Tonis Nyssen a plantation situate on the island of Manhattan, formerly occupied by the late Jans Celse". Data from the book entitled "Anneke Jans Bogardus and Her New Amsterdam Estate" compiled and printed by Thomas Bentley Wikoff in 1924 at Indianapolis, Ind. Eric Bal

ebal@hudsonet.com - Feb 15, 2001 Another tip: use the "Ctrl-F" keyboard function to jump around this page to spots containing the keywords you are looking for. I'll admit, this tip won't be very useful unless there's an awful lot of messages in this Middlesworth Room. But if there is, then this is a good tip! Eric Bal

ebal@hudsonet.com - Feb 14, 2001 Welcome to the Middlesworth Message Room. Your messages can be up to 1K in size (actually 978 bytes). If your message is longer, the excess after 978 bytes gets truncated. You can, however, post consecutive messages to effectuate as long a message as you like. You can easily send an email to any person who has posted a communication, by simply clicking on their email address. All communications posted will be dated and listed in order starting with the newest and ending with the oldest. This part of my website is for the Middlesworth (Denyse) online genealogical community, of which I am numbered. It will never go commercial, and it will never harbor any advertisements either, so help me God! I've maintained my website for over three years now, and I don't intend to ever close it down. My creation of this Room was motivated by the complaints at the MyFamily.com site about it deciding to start charging for its service. Your Middlesworth webhost: Eric Bal
